B.W. Baker SVORD Knife "Hand Forged Forest Ranger Bowie Knife". This replica Forest Ranger Bowie Knife is based on the knife design than von Tempsky issued to his company of Forest Rangers in 1863. Gustavus Ferdinand von Tempsky, adventurer, soldier and artist, learned the benefits of bowie knife fighting in California while working in the gold fields. He possessed a fine knife of American manufacture for his own use, but had about 30 bowie knives made to his personal design by a cutler of Shortland St, Auckland. These were issued to the men of No. 2 Company, New Zealand Forest Rangers, under Major von Tempsky's command. New Zealand hardwood handle. Hand forged Swedish high carbon steel clip point bowie blade. Full tang with lanyard hole. Three large brass lined steel handle pins. Hand forged steel double guard. A brawl that eventually involved Col. James "Jim" Bowie, who, having been shot and stabbed, successfully defended himself killing Major Norris Wright and wounding Alfred Blanchard with what onlookers described as a "large butcher knife." This and other tales of Bowie's abilities with a knife led to the widespread popularity of what became known as the "Bowie" knife. This elegant recreation offers a hardwood handle accented by the gold-plated blade catcher and guard which are reminiscent of the styling of original bowies. The classic 14-Inch Damascus steel blade is folded to an astounding 3456 layers. Included is a genuine leather sheath with brass plated star and Hibben Knives logo. These are serial numbered.
